What a nation of mewling little wusses we have become.
So we got a guy who we say is the mastermind of the attack that brought down the World Trade Center on 9/11/01. At first, when the Federal Courthouse in Lower Manhattan was named as the venue for his trial, many good reasons were given.
It is a "hardened location", providing secure, underground tunnels for transporting the prisoner to and from court. The very ideal of justice would seem to be served by holding the trial there.
But now, the decision is under fire from the panty-wringing NIMBYs who fear that it would make New York a target for terrorists.
HELLO!
New York is already a target for terrorists. Every numbnuts with a Koran and sufficient religous zeal dreams of pulling off something like that. Pretending to not see the train coming down the tracks won't make it disappear.
If the people of New York are not willing to bear the consequences of justice, then go ahead and have the trial somewhere else. Where they aren't afraid to take a stand against terrorism. Where, in this street fight of culture and ideology, the people are willing to take up New York's slack.
Good luck finding a jurisdiction like that!
